I like your channel, Guys !
❤ Hello Charlie. I have two questions mate. It's been almost a year that British accent has attracted me to itself and now I'm a great fan and lover.(I've watched near 30 British series in this time 😅). My first question is that I just want to know If a non-native person could ever succeed in learning British accent and speaking with it fluently?( I mean do you know one?). And the second question is I heard several times that if a non-native speaker tries to copy British accent in front of a native speaker the native speaker will find it insultive. Is it true?. If yes should I stop learning it as I don't want to insult other people and also I don't want to be mocked by others that I will never be able to master it, because sometimes some English speakers may find it weard that how an English learner like me chose British accent while American is easier and more common among non-native speaker.
Two interesting questions Ali. While I have met non-natives who have a really authentic sounding accent I’d say your time is better spent on other areas like vocabulary but it’s obviously up to you. I personally think it sounds a bit odd if a non-native learns a regional accent or a very royal RP and some accents are stereotyped and so some regional natives would be surprised to hear a non native choosing to mimic them and I guess that is when they could feel mocked. I think it’s about improving the sounds that you’re making. Make them nice and clean then it doesn’t matter what accent you have. It’s about being understood. If you really did want to imitate, as I do with my Spanish, I would choose an accent that is considered fairly “general”.
@@realenglishwithrealteacher4777 Firstly thanks for your answer. Secondly what do you mean of general accent? It's the first time I hear it. I heard that Modern RP is the common one that is mostly used in news or English classes. And yes I also agree with you that it would be weird that a non-native tries to mimic a regional accent. For example Brummie or Cockney (although these one are also beautiful 😊). I know that using the proper vocabulary and pronunciation is much much more important. But honestly as an it's sounds better to me as an Iranian when a non-native speaks just like us. Indians for example has their own specific accent when they speak English but isn't it better or more beautiful that an Indian or Chinese or like me an Iranian person speaks English more English😅? Thank you for your time. To be honest I thought you will never answer my comment 😅. ♥

In Spanish we have some rules about the translation of names. As far as I know people are called by his own name. In Spain you will always be called Charlie, not Carlos. But there are some exceptions: Kings, Popes and saints. In Spanish we don’t say for example: “El Rey Charles y el Principe William…” They’re called “Carlos” and “Guillermo” instead. OK! There are another exceptions: we say in Spanish, for example, William Shakespeare, but we translate Jules Verne as Julio Verne. Why? I don’t know
Ooo very interesting! 🙏
I'm a native Spanish speaker and I have never noticed that 😅 I totally agree with you. I'd never say Prince Charles, in Uruguay at least, we'd say Principe Carlos. But we would never say Alberto Einstein 😅 Albert for sure.
That was rather interesting. Thanks a lot for your amazing video and for sharing that piece of information with us. It was quite new to me. Thanks once again. I hope you will make more videos like this
Glad you enjoyed it! ☺️
